MAB Arquitectura is an architectural firm founded by Floriana Marotta and Massimo Basile in 2004 and based in Barcelona and Milan.
The office works within the private and public field, moving between the architecture of residential buildings, schools, offices and planning at urban and landscape scale.
The approach of the office is based on the research of a unique, pragmatic and site-specific architecture imbued with a strong identity, developed from user needs and totally respectful with the urban conditions where it is conceived.
The studio research focuses on the eco-neighbourhood topic, the reuse and transformation of buildings and brownfields as a contemporary requirement and as a sustainable development strategy.
Among the most relevant works, the Social Housing and Public Park project in via Gallarate - Milan, The Patronage Laïque, Cultural Centre and social housing for young workers in Paris, the Masterplan Via Pestagalli in Rogoredo – Milan, Cartier in Timisoara – Rumania, Cascina Merlata residential block in Milan.
In collaboration with Beretta Associati studio, MAB has recently completed two residential projects in Milan: Piranesi 44 and Leone XIII.
MAB received two National Prizes INARCH/ANCE in 2011 and 2014, the Honourable Mention at CNAPPC Prize in 2014. Social Housing project in Via Gallarate was nominated at European Mies van der Rohe Award 2011, was finaist at the Fondazione Renzo Piano Prize 2011 and at Gold Medal of Triennale di Milano, Honourable Mention at Ugo Rivolta Prize in 2011.
MAB’s work was exhibited at the Italian Pavilion in the XII and XIV Biennale of Architecture in Venice (2010 and 2014), in Paris at the exhibition “Habiter 2011” and in “Vers les nouveaux logements sociaux” at the Cité de l’ Architecture et du Patrimoine.
In Italy MAB partecipated at the exhibitions Dreaming Milano e Milano work in progress#2, and in Rome at Erasmus Effect exhibition - MAXXI.
