3TI PROGETTI is in charge of construction design and design review for the development of the Muscat International Airport under the contract MC1 (civil works) as a consultant for Hill International. The contract includes the surveys and the design for the refurbishment of the Southern Airfield (i.e. the existing runway and taxiways) and the new Northern Airfield.
The new airport is designed as ICAO category 4F airports and shall be able to accommodate the world`s largest aircraft, the Airbus A380. The terminal will have capacity to handle 12 million passengers per annum (MPPA) with an area of 350,000 m² designed to the latest "state of the art" technology and in accordance with IATA Service Level A standards. Further expansions is planned for Muscat International airport in three subsequent phases, ultimately boosting the airport`s capacity to 24, 36 and 48 MPPA.
The overall airport land area is of 21 km2 including a new 4,000 x 60 meter runway and associated taxiways, a new Air Traffic Control Tower and Air Traffic Management Centre. The project involves also the construction of a new ATC Contingency and Training Centre, new access road, a 6,000 vehicle car park and more than 50 ancillary buildings.
